TICA-Colombo Plan Joint Fellowship Programme on “Sustainable Community-based Eco-tourism Development” Burapha University, Thailand, 24 April- 9 May 2018

Group Photo-TICA (2)The Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Colombo Plan jointly organized a 16 days intensive training programme on “Sustainable Community-based Eco-tourism Development” in collaboration with Burapha University in Thailand from 24 April to 9 May 2018. The training was attended by 20 participants from 12 Colombo Plan member countries.

32130295_1801355233254211_5716796552685551616_n (2)The main purpose of the training was to enhance the capability, potency and efficiency knowledge on ecotourism and promotion of community enterprise development as a sustainability model among Colombo Plan member countries.  The training was well appreciated by the participants as it was designed to give both theories and practice with opportunities for direct interaction with the communities, home stays, villages and the Thailand tourism Department, etc. Thailand has offered various kinds of tourism, among which the community-based ecotourism has become one of the most sustainable approaches in tourism that integrated sufficiency economy philosophy.


Delegates from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Lao PDR attended the training.         Dr. Thomas Scaria, Senior Programme Officer, Colombo plan represented the Secretary General in the closing ceremony and gave his closing remarks. Dr. Vichaya Gunbue, Vice President of Research in Burapha University, Ms. Jiraporne, Senior Desk Officer, TICA, and Dr. Art Nawasit, coordinator of the programme were present.
