International Workshop on Environment and Climate Change, New Delhi, India, 09-13 April, 2018

The Government of India in collaboration with the Colombo Plan has hosted an international workshop on Environment and Climate Change for the Colombo Plan member Countries from 9-13 April 2018 in New Delhi, India. Over 20 senior delegates from 11 member countries participated in the workshop, facilitated by the Energy and Resource Institute, New Delhi.

The workshop was pledged by India during the 45th Consultative Committee Meeting of the Colombo Plan in Fiji, in response to formation of a new Programme on Environment and Climate Change in Colombo Plan. The workshop was attended by Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Fiji and Nepal.

Eminent resource persons from The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) conducted the training sessions on various aspects of the Climate Change including introduction to the global warming and climate change, global response to climate change, domestic response to climate change, sustainable development goals and NDCs, mainstreaming policies and adopting sustainable lifestyles, renewable energy, building adaptation and resilient capacities, funding opportunities and opportunities for implementation.

Dr. Ajai Mathur, Director-General, TERI, Mr. Hemendra Sharma, Director (DPA-II), MEA, Government of India and Dr. Thomas Scaria, Senior Programme Officer, Colombo Plan gave the opening remarks and underlined the importance of the workshop as a policy level intervention between member countries. Ambassador Ajai Malhotra, senior advisor, TERI gave his closing remarks and distributed certificates. Dr. Manish Srivatsava and Ms. Aishwarya Raj facilitated the workshop.

The participants prepared an action plan based on the listed priorities of the member states and recommended more similar workshops, capacity building programmes and sharing of best practices in the field of Environment and Climate Change.
