The Colombo Plan Council elected H.E. Mahbub-Uz-Zaman, High Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh as the President of the Council for FY 2011/2012. This election was made at the 275th Council session held on 28 November 2011 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

H.E. Mahbub-Uz-Zaman is a career diplomat with over 23 years of experience in international relations. He holds MSS( Economics) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

H.E. Mahbub-Uz-Zaman succeeded H.E. Kathy Klugman, High Commissioner for Australia who held the Presidency during FY 2010/2011.
